SCENIC EFFECTS
General:
Lifelong background in photography, design technology, and tinkering with mechanical, electrical, and pyrotechnical projects have made for particular interest in Scenic Effects; a love of three-dimensional mechanisms hoodwinking and surprising the camera lense.
Materials
Confidence in large-scale set-building (flattage), special structural sets (action and rigging), welding, laminating fibreglass/carbon-fibre, lime-plastering, ferro-cement, soldering, plumbing, boatbuilding, carving, timber-frame work, landscape gardening, slate roofing, stone-masonry, etc. derives from some early training and a lot of self-teaching.
Effects/Engineering
Restorations of vintage machinery and architecture have given a hard-earnt self-taught understanding of structural safety, visual-mechanical process, and the lateral thinking of special effects techniques. Comfortable with all materials, how to use them, and generally how things work, I enjoy a lateral yet focussed approach to visual problem-solving.
